The Future of Cruising from Norfolk To Be Addressed

(NORFOLK, VA) Carnival Cruise Line President, Christine Duffy, will speak with the Hampton Roads business community during a special “State of the Cruise Industry” virtual event presented by CIVIC Leadership Institute.  Ms. Duffy will share her unique insight into the industry’s plan for sailing beyond COVID-19, and how this focus impacts cruising from the 757.  The event will take place on Thursday, April 15 at 4:30 PM.

“Christine Duffy is among those leading the charge to safely resume cruise operations from ports around the globe,” said CIVIC Leadership Institute’s President and CEO, Sarah Jane Kirkland.  “This is the chance for our business community to learn more about the industry’s plans and how those plans impact Hampton Roads.”

As President of Carnival Cruise Line, Christine Duffy leads a company that sails a fleet of 24 ships, annually hosts nearly six million guests, and employs more than 43,000 people who hail from 110 nations around the globe.  The Hampton Roads region is the home to the only cruise terminal in the Commonwealth, located in downtown Norfolk at Nauticus.  Tourism remains a key economic driver for the region, and resuming cruising is a key aspect of revitalizing our travel and tourism industry.

“I’m looking forward to this conversation with Hampton Roads business and civic leaders.  This is an important market for us, and the situation in the cruise industry remains fluid, so we should have a lot to talk about,” said Duffy.
